Ron Cutlip, Golf Course Architect, is pleased to bring a unique golf experience to the heart of New York City in THE UBS 17TH HOLE CHALLENGE: THE PLAYERS AT ROCKEFELLER CENTER from May 3-12.
Rockefeller Plaza will be transformed into the most dramatic challenge in golf, the signature 17th hole of the TPC at Sawgrass golf course. Guests will have the unique opportunity to play one of the most daunting holes which continually vexes the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Fred Couples. Come play a ¼ version of the 137-yard par-3 hole, take a shot on the putting green or swing station and stay to watch the broadcast of THE PLAYERS Championship Tournament live from Sawgrass on the jumbotron.

One of the holes being recreated is Sawgrass’s famous 17th hole. In its brief history, the island hole has become one of the most renowned of its kind in the world. The signature hole is a short par 3 with a wide green that narrows to the right side. The right side of the green is protected by a small bunker, which sometimes will be a relief to player who come up short of the green. Club selection on this hole is critically important; with the tricky winds of spring, The Players Championship can easily be won or lost here.
Tishman Speyer has partnered with Cutlip Golf Design to recreate the famous 17th hole as well as transform 30 Rock Plaza into a unique golf experience. The number 15th and 16th will also be built as well as a putting and driving area. NBC Sports will have a broadcasting booth on location to capture live moments at Rockefeller Center and tournament play from Sawgrass in Florida.
Several years ago Ron was the first golf course architect to envision an authentic golf experience in New York City at the annual flower and garden show in Rockefeller Center Ron is thrilled to be back in his own back yard, 30 Rock Plaza for the UBS 17th Challenge. We invite you to come out and experience golf in a whole new way.
